Child and Family Counsellor

Meet Jo – Child & Youth Counsellor (She/Her)

If you’re looking for someone who truly gets kids – especially those who feel a little different or a little overwhelmed – Jo might just be your person. With over two decades of experience working alongside children in early learning and school settings, Jo brings a gentle, wise, and deeply empathetic approach to every session.

Before stepping into her current role as a Child & Youth Counsellor, Jo spent 15 years in child care and another 10 supporting students in classrooms, particularly those who are neurodiverse. She’s worked closely with children with ADHD, Autism, PDA, ODD and more – and through it all, she’s been a fierce advocate for ensuring these incredible kids feel heard, supported, and celebrated for exactly who they are.

After noticing how many children’s emotional needs were going unmet in traditional settings, Jo pursued a Diploma in Counselling – and now she’s helping children and families navigate anxiety, schooling challenges, and big feelings with compassion, humour, and connection.

What Jo brings to The Nurtured Village:Jo’s superpower is connection. She creates a safe, inviting space where kids feel relaxed enough to open up – often while their hands are busy making fidget toys or exploring sensory activities. Her sessions are filled with fun, learning, and plenty of “aha” moments as she teaches kids about how their brains work and how to feel empowered in their everyday lives.

A proud advocate for neurodivergent kids, Jo’s deep understanding of how schools function helps her work alongside families and educators to create environments where children can truly thrive. Her calm, grounded presence brings a beautiful sense of balance to our team – and her ability to make any child feel seen is something truly special.

A little more about Jo:

Fun Fact: Jo is totally weather-obsessed! Thanks to her storm-loving dad, she tracks lightning, watches radars, and will happily drop everything to go storm-chasing with her sister. If it’s raining – you’ll know she’s loving life.

Jo in a sentence: I’m the fidget/sensory maker Queen! I teach kids how calming tools can be fun, powerful, and personalised – and we always have a blast making them together.

Fave podcast: The Mel Robbins Podcast – Jo loves a motivational pep talk during her outreach drives.Snack of choice: Almond iced latte, sushi, Atomic Tomato chips, and a sneaky Furry Friend choccie.

Dream superpower: Flying high with zero fear of heights – Jo would love to see the world from the clouds.

At The Nurtured Village, Jo helps children feel safe, confident, and free to be themselves. If your child needs a nurturing guide to help them navigate anxiety, school challenges, or just the ups and downs of growing up – Jo would love to meet them.

In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
