Psychotherapy & Counselling.
Psychotherapy and Counselling are very personal, and at times anxiety provoking process to initiate. Many individuals come to therapy because they may have experienced issues that are causing emotional pain or discomfort. Our therapists at The Nurtured Village provide a safe, confidential environment that promotes mental health, wellbeing, enhance self-understanding and resolve identified concerns. Therapists are fully present with their clients, using empathy and deep listening to establish positive working relationships. Our therapists understand that counselling is the most effective when clients feel safe, understood, respected, and accepted without judgement.
Our therapists strongly believe that people have the desire and the capacity to grow towards their fulfilling their true potential and are the expert of their own lives. The therapists will empower and work collaboratively with their clients, as they will be an active participant in every process of the counselling experience.
Evidence based interventions that inform our practice are:
Â
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: CBT encourages alternate ways of thinking by challenging unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that cause distress. It is based on the concept that a situation can trigger unhelpful thoughts and feelings which influence our behaviour.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: One of ACTâs core messages is accepting what is out of your personal control and committing to taking action that enriches your life. ACT encompasses principles of mindfulness that are forefront in my approach. Using mindfulness helps children be in the âhere and nowâ, reduces anxiety and increases self-awareness, emotional regulation, and awareness of thoughts and feelings.
Strengths Based Approach: The strengths-based approach is a powerful, positive intervention that can bring awareness for children of what their strengths are and how they can use their strengths to help them through the challenges they face.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: The term âdialecticalâ means âworking with oppositesâ. DBT uses seemingly opposing strategies of âacceptanceâ and âchangeâ. The therapist accepts you just as you are, but acknowledges the need for change in order for you to recover, move forward and reach your personal goals.
